Government | Organizational Communications | Community Engagement Organization: Housing Authority of Birmingham District (HABD) Role: Director of Strategic Communications Campaign Title: Strategic Plan Launch — Public Relations & Community Engagement Strategy

Overview: HABD developed a new organizational strategic plan representing its roadmap for the future, but a strategic plan without effective communication is just a document. The challenge was translating complex organizational priorities into accessible, audience-centered narratives delivered through the right channels to the right audiences at the right time.

The Challenge: Ensure HABD's new strategic plan reached and resonated with every key stakeholder group, media, elected officials, community members, and residents, in a way that built genuine awareness, trust, and investment in the organization's future direction.

The Strategy: Developed a multi-channel public relations strategy built around four core engagement pillars: media relations, government engagement, community outreach, and resident engagement. Executed a targeted media campaign securing television interviews, facilitated resident focus groups and community go-sees, coordinated a formal City Council presentation, and developed and promoted community events to maximize broad-based engagement.

The Results:

  • Secured 4+ television station interviews reaching Birmingham households via local news

  • Directly engaged residents through focus groups and in-community go-sees

  • Presented to the Birmingham City Council, building governmental awareness and support

  • Elevated HABD's visibility as a transparent, community-accountable public agency
